The Nehruian Politics of India in Brief

Author: Christy M

Politics is the cup of tea that not everyone can have any time any where especially if you are somewhere in India. This is because a trend has been established in this country by the erstwhile first prime-minister of India namely Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru, the Cambridge educated barrister. Though till date there are a whole lot of people who swear by his charms and popularity. Nehruji was born at a time when this country was ruled by the British. Things were not as easy as it is today 60 years after the Indian independence. Indians were not given any respect or the deserved dignity in their own country. Somewhere near a church in Himachal Pradesh in India, it was written this way "Indians and Dogs not allowed".

You can understand the treatment meted out to these poor people. However with time many Indians rose to greater heights especially in politics, just because the people started sending their sons and daughters to England for further studies and most probably as barristers. Nehruji and his father were one among this new awakened and educated group. Hence people started joining active politics mainly to over throw the British Empire. Nehruji was arrested many times along with others for the freedom struggle. Finally on August 15 1947, India became independent and Nehruji was sworn in as the first PM of Independent India. He continued in the same post till his death in 1964. However he left a strange legacy behind him of making the family members assume the same posts and this is continued till now.

Personally I have nothing against the Nehruian trend moving on but for the inefficient person who occupy important post because his family member earlier occupied it. This is not good for the national development. It greatly hampers the progress of the nation and instead brings in a greater degradation. This can result in more poverty, communal strives and many to say. So the people should become more aware of these facts and elect an efficient leader and follow the west for the electoral pattern. Maybe we can see for ourselves, how far we have reached in competition to the developed countries. Lets be serious in our voting process.
